Racing: Ascot facing further inspection

Ascot are to have a midday inspection after heavy frost put today's meeting in doubt.

Temperatures got down to -2C overnight in Britain.

The six-race card is due to get underway at 1.00pm.

Clerk of the course Nick Cheyne said: "We'll look again at midday.

"The hurdle track is still unraceable, the majority of the chase track is not too bad."

"The problem area is that in front of the stands up the straight where the sun is getting on the course very slowly.

"There are parts of the course in that area on which we still cannot race and which the sun may not be able to reach.

"Having gone as far as we have, it seems right to give the track every chance."

All today's other meetings have been cancelled.
