All-Ireland football manager John O'Mahony fired the gun to begin the BUPA sponsored Loughrea Road Race.

All-Ireland football manager John O'Mahony fired the gun to begin the BUPA sponsored Loughrea Road Race.

More than 1,000 competitors lined-up to take part in the race which takes in two laps of the Loughrea town.

O'Mahony, who was representing the races official charity the Irish Heart Foundation, said: "Although the sport was an individualistic event it was good for everyone, young and old".
