A smart sort in bumpers last season, he made his jumping debut at Listowel and, despite being very easy to back, was smart enough to account for Sanibel Island.
Expected to come on quite considerably for the run, he looks well treated in this race, as he is in receipt of 4lbs from top-weight Herminator, who is rated 123. He looks capable of reaching a much higher level and anything bar a comfortable victory will be disappointing. The danger may come from the talented but frustrating Mighty Concorde, who looks better than his current mark of 114, but has proven impossible to win with. A strong pace in decent company seems to be what brings out the best in him, and he can reach the frame.
The opening race, the Mervue Maiden Hurdle, looks a match between Presenting Percy and Le Martalin, and the former can edge that battle, despite conceding race-fitness to the latter.
Trained locally, by Pat Kelly, he outran odds of 50-1 when runner-up to Battleford on his bumper debut, and showed that to be no fluke when justifying heavy support at Ballinrobe, where he readily accounted for now smart hurdler Carrig Cathal.
He was far from disgraced in seventh place behind Blow By Blow in a Grade 1 bumper on his final start of last season, and that level of form stands out in today’s company. He is entitled to improve for this run -his first over hurdles - but the touch of class he possesses can be enough to see him home in front.
