Today's tips: Swish looks poised to swoop in fillies maiden at Fairyhouse
Johnny Feane’s filly ran a very promising race on debut, when fading late to finish sixth behind subsequent listed winner Cuff, and then failed narrowly to overcome a wide dawn when third, beaten less than a length, behind Elusive Beauty over this evening’s course and distance.
While she is not ideally drawn again, in terms of experience she has a clear edge over many of her rivals, and can use that to get across towards the rails early and without expending too much energy. There are some interesting rivals in opposition, including newcomer Butterfly Kisses, but the selection looks more than capable of picking up a maiden, and this represents an ideal opportunity.
Flowerhill can make a successful return to maiden company in race two. Andrew Slattery’s gelding has been placed in all three runs since returning to the turf this season, and was, arguably, unlucky not to get a lot closer to the winner when third behind the cleverly-ridden Fit For Function in a decent handicap at Leopardstown last Thursday night.
Drawn far away from the rails, and keen through much of the race, he was carried wide by a rival as he tried to make his first move, off the turn for home. However, he ran on quite nicely to finish just over two lengths, and that was an effort which confirmed his well-being. This doesn’t look the strongest of maidens and, with a mark of 79, he sets a decent standard.
