Air Force Blue could return to action at Goodwood

Air Force Blue and Toormore are among the big names in contention for the Qatar Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Air Force Blue could return to action at Goodwood

The Aidan O’Brien-trained Air Force Blue completed a hat-trick of Group One victories in the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket last October, but has been bitterly disappointing in both the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and the Irish version at the Curragh so far this season.

The War Front colt is one of six possible Ballydoyle challengers in the seven-furlong Group Two, with recent Leopardstown scorer Dick Whittington another leading hope.

Other Group One winners among 41 entries include last year’s winner Toormore, Lumiere and Charming Thought.

David O’Meara is planning a Goodwood appearance for So Beloved. The six-year-old, who won the Supreme Stakes at this track last August, runs in Saturday’s John Sunley Memorial Criterion Stakes at Newmarket, after which his Goodwood target will be decided.

O’Meara said: “He runs in the Criterion Stakes this Saturday and we will get this weekend out of the way before deciding which race to consider at Goodwood. He’s entered in the Sussex Stakes as well and I will have a chat with the owner after we get this week’s run out of the way - he might be keen on going for the big pot. So Beloved loves Goodwood and it seems to bring out the best in him.”

Nine Godolphin entries also include last year’s runner-up Dutch Connection, recent Jersey Stakes scorer Ribchester and last season’s Coventry Stakes victor Buratino. Coronation Stakes runner-up Nemoralia, Limato and Kodi Bear also feature on a high-class list.
