Anseanachai Cliste completes magnificent seven in four-miler

The first session of the two-day Kinsale point-to-point meeting took place at a sun-drenched Farrangalway on Saturday evening and Ciaran Fennessy increased his advantage to four over the absent Derek O’Connor in the southern riders’ championship by partnering a two-timer to bring his tally in the region to 23.

The Fermoy amateur instigated his brace aboard this season’s leading pointer Anseanachai Cliste (evens-4/6), who was recording his seventh consecutive this year, in the four-mile open that was staged in memory of the late Jack Tyner.

Anseanachai Cliste, fitted with his customary cheekpieces, made most of the running and he asserted in game fashion after the penultimate of the 20 obstacles to defeat Ivor Kingston’s Clara More by seven lengths.

Anseanachai Cliste is trained by Stephen McConville outside Portadown and Fennessy was partnering the gelding in place of the handler’s son Michael, who also owns the eight-year-old, as he is presently away on honeymoon with his bride Darina McNichol in Florida.

“This horse is thriving on his racing and we gave him a wee break after he won in Necarne three weeks ago,” said handler McConville, who was paying an first visit to Kinsale. “This is some way to finish off and hopefully, he will be back again next season. “

Fennessy then doubled up aboard Ballinhassig-based owner/trainer Adrian Hickey’s Chase The Clouds (5/4), much to the chagrin of the 15 bookmakers present, in the closing adjacent hunts maiden.

Chase The Clouds, placed third on his previous two forays this season, always took the eye in second spot and he led from two out to beat long-time leader Rocking DJ by six lengths.

Jamie Codd increased his advantage to seven at the head of the riders’ table to bring his seasonal tally to 65 by partnering a first and second race double
