Drillmaster looks poised to follow up
The progressive grey would be a poignant winner for Charles O’Brien whose mother died earlier this week. Having shown promise in races won by Spruce Meadows and Stone Mountain respectively, Drillmaster came good here two weeks ago, digging deep to beat Prove The Point, which reposes the selection on 3lb. better terms here.
The Mizzen Mast responded to Fran Berry’s driving and looked as if a step-up in trip might bring about more improvement. So tonight’s extra furlong is a plus. Drillmaster gets the vote to confirm his superiority over Prove The Point and keep Ineffable at bay.
The Pat Shanahan-trained Charlies Missile, fourth to Drillmaster last time, sets the standard in the Big Bad Bob Claiming Maiden which opens the card.
Runner-up to Chewy Round Town last month, on his first run for Shanahan, he then finished fourth to Crazy Tornado and was noted finishing well in a handicap last time, off 68. Reverting to a claimer, Charlies Missile is preferred to the high-rated Zebgrey, having her first run since finishing fourth in a Chelmsford maiden in October.
