Today's Tips: Emma to successfully step up in class at Youghal
The talented bitch was a well-backed favourite in lower grade last weekend and her class told as she led early and readily accounted for the lightly raced but very talented Ballygibbon Kirk.
While the clock was modest, for one of her ability, she’s capable of better, and this step up in class holds no fears.
There may be more competition for the lead this week than last, but she’s not a one-trick pony. She looks likely to turn very close and, with plenty of stamina for the standard trip, will take plenty of holding.
The danger may come from the strong-running Cavies Doll. She has been running well in higher grade recently, and should appreciate a drop in class. With luck in running, she’ll be very hard to keep out of the frame.
Very promising youngster Barnfield Spark can complete his hat-trick in the ninth race.
Tomas Leahy’s February pup was a winner in A8 company on his second start, and made light of the huge step up to A4 grade for his next start. Although short of room early, he tracked cleverly, caught the eye with his backstraight pace, and prove too strong in the closing stages.
Although un-penalised for that victory, there is a little more depth in tonight’s race, and certainly plenty of early pace. The selection may not match his rivals on the run-up, but he should be able to sit just behind the pace, and can once again use his stamina to gain the day.
The danger may come from another strong-running sort, Cracker Barrel, who has winning form at this level. He looks to have a favourable draw on the wide outsider, and will be hard to keep out of the frame.
