Classy Boherash Messiah too good for A2 company
Out of a half-sister to former Leger winner Boherash Gaoithe, it took numerous efforts for this fellow to shed his maiden status but when the breakthrough came it arrived in style, with a 28.33 victory. Highly tried since, this race represented one of his easiest assignments for some time, and he had little trouble making the most of the opportunity.
After riding an early bump, the 6-4 favourite had the pace to clear the three runners on his inner, and then turned third behind Ballycannon Hero. An impressive turn of pace carried him to the front racing to the third bend, and he pulled clear in great style to beat the long-time leader by five lengths, in 28.49.
Next best on the clock was Showmethemoney, who took the closing race for Edmond Barrett. A winner in A2 company last time, he stepped up to open class company for this assignment, and used his inside line to win well. In front early, he pulled away late to score by four lengths, in 28.60.
Leemount Lari gave trainer Jack Sexton the first leg of a double when taking the opener. Out of a litter sister to former Laurels finalist Glenanore Dancer, the youngster appeared to falter at trap-rise but showed fine early pace to lead around. Wide around the opening bends, he raced a couple clear down the back, and withstood the late challenge of Butterbridge Joy by a head, in 29.43.
Curryhills Flash completed Sexton’s double when coming from behind to take the S3 sprint. Short of room around the bends, the 6-4 stood his ground well, challenged Dynamo Supreme early in the home-straight and, with the width of the track separating them, prevailed by the minimum margin, in 17.98.
Belvedere Beauty made all the running to take race two, an S4 sprint, for Dermot O’Sullivan. Out of a litter sister to former Derby finalist Belvedere Champ, she recorded her third career victory with an all-the-way victory, in 17.83.
Ryecourt Scarlet, who is a Droopys Scolari half-sister to Derby champ Ballymac Matt, brought her tally to two from three when taking race three for Peg Shanahan. The July bitch pup showed a great attitude to hold her ground in the face of early crowding, and then had the pace to lead between the opening bends. She stretched out well thereafter to beat Happy Stamp by a length and a half in 29.37.
The John Kiely-trained Newlawn Donie scored for the second time in just three career outings when leading all the way in race five. A 3.33 sectional had the February pup clear early and, despite racing very wide on the home-turn, held the rush of Parish Milly by half a length, in 29.09.
Creamery Diva left it late to put her nose in front in the A4 550 sixth race. Anthony Mullins’ classy bitch turned second behind clear leader Imperatorius but closed to challenge around the final bends. Short of room momentarily, she ran on determinedly to score by half a length, in 30.29.
Lavan Lad, trained by Christy Corcoran for Ned and Denis Fitzgerald, made all in race seven. The 6-4 chance raced some four clear early, and stayed on well to deny the strong move of favourite Ryecourt Molly by two lengths, in 28.77.
Diarmuid Dooge’s Shaded Sky produced a really game display in the A3 seventh race. Favourite Loskeran Ramsey led early despite moving wide on the run-up, and held a narrow advantage down the back. The eventual winner made rapid progress from halfway, and sustained her run down the outside to steal a neck victory, in 28.95.
The prolific Oaklands Paddy secured his 21st victory when asserting late to take the A1 for trainer Denis Fitzgerald and owner Billy Dunne. Fourth turning for home, he swept around the leaders racing into the straight, and stayed on powerfully to beat Burgess Four in 28.90.
