Bertram Allen wins three cars in one show

Irish show jumpers were in stunning form on both sides of the Atlantic, with Bertram Allen amazing everybody by winning three Volkswagen cars in Stockholm, Sweden, while Conor Swail staked his claim to the headlines with victory in the $212,000 (€200,000) Holiday & Horses Grand Prix in Florida.

Allen had Quiet Easy to thank for a double that included the grand prix and earned the Wexford native two cars, with rumour spreading he is to open a VW dealership when claiming his third vehicle as the show’s leading rider.

The second part of his mount’s name best described his grand prix win yesterday, the world No7 producing one of only three double clears, as he finished a massive two-and-three-quarter seconds faster than American Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum on Apsara.
