John Murphy’s horse wasn’t without his supporters when third behind Beau Satchel early in the week at the Galway Festival, and again ran very well when filling the same position behind Bribe The Bouncer at the same venue, 24 hours later.

He didn’t step forward from that when beaten over a longer trip at Tipperary next time, but the return to seven furlongs should be in his favour, and the booking of Seamie Heffernan, who rode him last time, is another positive. He looks the type who could take to this surface, and can account for Pershing and Tubeanie.

Usa can take the finale under Nina Carberry. The eight-year-old has run three times at this course, finishing runner-up on the first occasion, winning this race in 2013 on the second, and finishing a somewhat disappointing fourth when bidding for a follow-up in 2014.

That was his last run on the flat, but he has been in decent form this summer, suggesting he could reproduce his best form on the level once more. That being so, he should run a huge race.

Talented Kid is very well-in at the weights, but has been hard to win with in recent seasons. He’s having his first run since December and just his second for trainer David Nagle. Market support would be significant.

Kiss The Stars can take the opener for trainer Tom McCourt and jockey Colin Keane, who combined to take the same race, with Bangalore Diamond, in 2013.

Far from disgraced behind Empress Toorah in a Curragh handicap last time, he has posted some decent efforts at Dundalk, where he has finished runner-up three times in five outings. Rated six pounds lower on the turf than the all-weather, the five-year-old is a consistent sort, and another good run is on the cards. Danz Gift is an interesting rival, and should go well.
