Ian Queally gave Maudlin Magdalen a textbook ride to land the featured Kingdom Gold Cup, worth €30,000 to the winner, last evening at Killarney.

The young rider got the Donal Kinsella-trained mare settled nicely in front, and was able to dictate throughout. Favourite Sidra sat behind the pace but was never able to get on terms, as the leader stayed on well to win readily from the staying-on Break My Mind.

“It’s a racecourse that suits the filly,” said the winning trainer, of the mare who was completed a quick-fire hat-trick with victory at this track in 2013. “But it’s a surprise she won that well.”
