An Irish photographer was last night recovering after suffering a broken ankle in a freak accident during yesterday’s Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase.

Irish camera man injured at Cheltenham

Patrick McCann was brought to Bristol’s Southmead Hospital after suffering a serious fracture in a nasty spill, as French challenger and favourite Toutancarmont went left and took out Quantitativeeasing, both crashing through the rails. Quantitativeeasing in turn collided into Racing Post photographer McCann.

A Cheltenham spokeswoman said: “We’ll review it, but we work to BHA general instructions, provided as part of the rules and regulations, and ensure every photographer coming on sight has a public liability of £1,000,000-plus to help us with incidents like this. The general consensus is this is one of those slightly freak accidents.”
