Bonny Kate can add to Meade’s joy
The daughter of Beneficial was well touted when making her debut at Navan, but proved disappointing in only finishing seventh behind the impressive Lyrical Theatre.
She then returned to Navan 13 days later and was seen in a far better light.
Ridden more prominently by Nina Carberry on this occasion, Bonny Kate went to the front with four furlongs to run.
She had no answer in the closing stages, however, to Willie Mullins’ odds-on shot, Turcagua, and was beaten six lengths into second.
There was plenty to admire, though, in the way she stuck to her task and Bonny Kate gets the nap, with an extra two furlongs to cover.
Mullins’ French-import, As De Ferbet, can land the opening four-runner Buy Your 2015 Annual Membership Beginners Chase.
He gets all the allowances, as a four-year-old on the last day of 2014, and made a reasonable start in this country when runner-up behind Aerlite Supreme at Thurles.
His trainer obviously believes that staying is his game and the selection takes a dramatic rise in trip of seven furlongs.
The Job Is Right is the form horse on his creditable fourth behind Living Next Door in the Paddy Power at Leopardstown but that was a hard race then, just four days ago.
Mullins’ Petite Parisienne, another product of France, is the interesting one in the Festival Hospitality On Sale three-year-old Maiden Hurdle.
The daughter of Montmartre has some smart form in four races on the flat, scoring once and never finishing out of the first three.
She was last seen at Chantilly in June when second over 10 furlongs, in a contest that has worked out quite nicely.
