The progressive Newton’s Night is fancied to land the David Heneghan Memorial Rated Race at Ballinrobe this evening.

Progressive Night canfollow up

John Oxx’s daughter of Galileo hinted at possessing a fair amount of ability in her first two runs, prior to revealing her true colours at Naas 22 days ago.

Nibbled at in the market, the 5-1 shot won in fine style, after travelling beautifully throughout that one-mile test.

Declan McDonogh brought her wide up the straight and Newton’s Night quickened away in the closing stages to beat the subsequent winner, Sweet Cherry, by three and a half lengths.

The manner in which she stayed on in the closing stages was encouraging and an extra furlong and a half now may well play to her strengths.

Oxx can also take the Ballinrobe Ireland’s Lake District Maiden with the hitherto somewhat disappointing Marakoush.

He has certainly promised a lot more than has been delivered and hasn’t been seen since falling to get to grips with 20-1 chance Sundara at Leopardstown in May.

Obviously, Marakoush is not to be overly trusted then, but his overall form does appear to give him an edge in this league.

Special Tiara, a costly failure over flights at Cork last time, can redeem the losses in the Donal Downes Water Towers Chase.

He is currently rated 153 over fences and ran in that Cork race off 116, no less than 37lbs below his chase mark.

But hurdling has never been Special Tiara’s game and he trailed in a well-beaten fifth behind Wisty.

The last time he ran over fences was in a Grade 1 at Sandown in April, when third to the two-mile Champion Chaser, Sire De Grugy. That speaks for itself, in the context of this opposition.
