Sizing Europe set for surprise return

The 12-year-old was last seen regaining his crown in the boylesports.com Champion Chase at the Punchestown Festival at the end of April, after which owner Alan Potts suggested time was likely to be called on his pride and joy’s glittering racing career amid emotional scenes in the winner’s enclosure.

However, his retirement was never confirmed and the veteran is due to at least come back into work to see if the spark is still there.

Sizing Europe has won Gowran’s PWC Champion Chase for the past three years.

Speaking at Killarney yesterday, de Bromhead said: “I’ve been saying all year that he’s been unbelievable form and the plan at the moment is that he’ll come back in training and go for the race in Gowran that he’s won for the last three years.

“If he does give us any indication that he’s had enough, he’ll be retired straight away. We’ll leave it to the horse to tell us.”
