Riverside City sure to improve

Riverside City gets the nap to land easily the most interesting contest on the card at Roscommon tonight, the Easyfix Rubber Products Rated Novice Hurdle.

Gordon Elliott’s charge went off a well-backed 5-4 favourite to win his maiden at Gowran Park 17 days ago, but, while the bets were landed, he was far from impressive.

The five-year-old jumped and travelled beautifully through the contest and appeared set for a comfortable victory early in the straight.

But, in the end, Riverside City was all out to hold 66-1 shot Give Her Bach, the verdict a hard earned half a length.

Give Her Bach performed moderately in a bumper at Limerick on Sunday, but the credit side is that Meldrum Lad, fourth at Gowran, has won in the meantime.

That Gowran race was the selection’s first for 175 days and chances are he simply tired in the closing stages. Riverside City is certainly entitled to benefit plenty from the much-needed outing.

Adrian Maguire’s veteran, Golden Kite, gets the vote to defy top weight in the three-mile Leo Dolan Memorial Handicap Hurdle.

There is no indication he is in decline, with the 12-year-old putting up a fine display at Roscommon last month to land a valuable race over fences.

Golden Kite is now rated 135 at that game, but runs here off a mark of 114, so that speaks for itself.

Michael Hourigan’s Thats Nice could provide the answer to the roscommonracecourse.ie Bumper.

He showed nothing in one outing in a point-to-point, but made a satisfactory start on the track when third to the market leaders, New Kid In Town and Liss Ui Riain, here a month ago. The fourth horse, Myles Ahead, scored at Wexford on Friday night.
