Jockey Eddie O’Connell has been banned from riding for four years after being found guilty by the Referrals Committee of the Turf Club of being in breach of rules following a long running investigation of lay bets made on Yachvili, whom he rode and who was pulled up in a beginners chase at Downpatrick on September 21 2011.

The bets in question were brought to the attention of the Turf Club by Betfair.

James Lambe, trainer of Yachvili who was a 12-1 shot, was cleared of all charges in relation to the matter at the Turf Club yesterday morning, but O’Connell was found to be in breach of two rules and has been banned for four years.
