Pageboy pounces to earn rare jumps success for Wachman

Pageboy, ridden by Paul Townend, gave trainer David Wachman his first chase success in almost eight years (since Manjoe won at Navan in June 2006) when landing the Free Admission For Under 18’s At All Meetings Beginners Chase at Fairyhouse last evening.

The six-year-old, owned by the Mount Temple Two Racing Syndicate, was disputing the lead with Dushybeag at the second last when the challenging favourite, Cailin Annamh (Barry Geraghty), took a crashing fall.

Pageboy stayed on dourly from that point to beat Presenting Beara by two lengths, prompting his trainer to comment: “It’s great for the lads — they’ve been with me from the start. He’s a tough horse and loves summer ground. He’ll go for a winners’ race somewhere and might end up in Galway.”
