Maguire continues recovery closer home
The Grand National-winning jockey was unseated from Scots Gaelic at the second flight in a two-mile handicap hurdle and kicked in the stomach by another horse.
Maguire was airlifted to University Hospital Coventry, where X-rays revealed he suffered a fractured sternum and bleeding on his liver which resulted in having part of it removed. He was put into an induced coma while he had an operation.
“ He’s made good progress over the weekend.”said his agent Chris Broad
Meanwhile, Daryl Jacob is recuperating at home following his release from hospital on Monday after he suffered multiple injuries in a nasty incident at Cheltenham on Friday.
Jacob underwent surgery on Saturday after suffering a broken knee, leg and elbow when he hit a hard surface after his mount Port Melon crashed into a rail on the way down to the start for the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle.
His agent Chris Broad said: “Daryl was released from Cheltenham hospital on Monday. I spoke to him last night when he got back home.
“He’s had his operation and has had his leg pinned and plated. It’s in an open brace, not a cast, which is good and he has had his elbow wired.
“It’s really good he’s home and is on the mend and the hospital were very pleased with how it is. He’s in good spirits.”
