Afonso to recoup losses

Afonso de Sousa, a costly failure at Dundalk last time, gets the nap to redeem the losses in the Listed Carlingford Stakes back on the all weather tonight.

The Henry The Navigator colt showed a liking for this surface on his somewhat belated reappearance late last month, beating in-form Dabadiyan by a comfortable length and a half.

He then came back to Dundalk a week later and was preferred in the market to the smart Paris Hall in a Group 3. The three-year-old, however, ran far too freely and had nothing left from early in the straight, as first Parish Hall went past and then Manalapan near the line.
