Diamond Stilettos’ chance to sparkle

Tipperary Preview

Diamond Stilettos, a 66-1 shot on her debut at the Curragh eight days ago, is the nap choice in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden at Tipperary this afternoon.

That Curragh contest was won by Aidan O’Brien’s well touted newcomer, Guerre, who went off a heavily backed 11-10 favourite to cope with 18 rivals.

Guerre duly accomplished the task, beating the Paul Deegan-trained Atlantic Sea by three parts of a length. Today’s selection, however, ran a cracker to claim third spot, just a head adrift of the runner-up. She was badly drawn in five, but displayed plenty of speed to lead from the start and then kept going strongly once headed by the principals. That was over six furlongs, but dropping down a furlong should not trouble Diamond Stilettos unduly.

Feature event is the South Tipperary Tourism Fundraiser 6th October Handicap, which is seriously competitive.

The nod falls on David Wachman’s Time For Action, who was returning from a break at Killarney last month.

The Dylan Thomas colt certainly gave promise of better to come, staying on nicely at the end of a mile and three to finish third behind Jazz Girl and Shalaman.

Hail Shower, who ran twice at Listowel last week, makes a quick reappearance in the tipperaryraces.ie Apprentice Handicap.

She won by six lengths, over six and a half furlongs, on the Monday and then seemed to find seven further than she wanted to travel when third to Jansa’s Jingle last Friday. Willie McCreery now tries her over five and Hail Shower should have the pace to go close, in an ordinary heat.

The modest A Star Is Born, third behind Wandering Star at the Curragh, gets the vote in the Family Day Super Sunday Fillies Maiden.
