Jazz Girl can hit right note

Jazz Girl can defy her massive burden of 10-7, less the 5lbs claim of Connor King, in the ten furlongs Fillies Handicap at Roscommon tonight.

Obviously having to carry such a huge weight is far from ideal, but Andy Oliver’s five-year-old is in cracking form right now and has the capacity to outclass this opposition.

She produced a fine effort at Killarney just four days ago to land a very valuable handicap in game fashion.

Beautifully handled by King, the selection made all of the running, digging deep in the closing stages to resist the persistent challenge of Shalaman.

Aidan O’Brien’s Lungarno Palace is the choice in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden for juveniles.

Second on his debut behind stable companion, Orchestra, at Tipperary last month, it is no surprise he is now fitted with blinkers.

Lungarno Palace ran lazily for much of that seven furlongs plus, but came home really well when the penny finally began to drop.

The Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden, three-year-olds and up, looks a match between Dermot Weld’s Wandering Star and David Wachman’s Murphy’s Delight.

Wandering Star has run just once, the grey daughter of Verglas easily taking a Wexford bumper in May.

Murphy’s Delight made an excellent reappearance at the Curragh when third to Manalapan and Orator, came from off the pace, and then disappointed behind Convocate at Leopardstown, after attempting to make all.

Narrow preference is for Murphy’s Delight and it will be fascinating to see how he is ridden on this occasion.

Peter Fahey’s Alton Bay might provide the answer to the Bumper, although failing to live up to expectations when only third to Gambling Girl and Spa Hill at Bellewstown. Mind you, Spa Hill did go on to score at Killarney on Friday evening.
