€200,000 boost for McNamara fund after Akorakor wins Champion Point-To-Point Bumper

After Akorakor had won the Racing Post Champion Point-To-Point Bumper for Gigginstown House Stud his trainer, Gordon Elliott, revealed that he won’t be training him next season.

“I’m training their point-to-point horses (along with Pat Doyle) and the agreement was that they would then be moved on”, said Elliott.

Jane Mangan was in the plate and gave her usual polished display, driving the winner ahead early in the straight to hold Concordin by three parts of a length.

Part of the conditions of the contest were that Gigginstown would offer the winning connections €200,000 for their horse.

But they already own Akorakor, so in a terrific gesture instead gave the entire amount to the John Thomas McNamara fund.

Elliott said of Akorakor: “He’s a proper horse, is massive and only four.

“He will be some horse with a summer’s grass.”
