India’s Song can get off the mark

Connections of India’s Song will surely be down in the dumps if she is unable to get off the mark at Southwell today.

India’s Song can get off the mark

David Simcock’s charge was something of an eyecatcher when making good late headway to finish seventh on her debut at Kempton last November, so it was no surprise to see her sent off favourite on her return to action at Lingfield a month ago.

India’s Song looked likely to triumph after turning for home in front, but she was mowed down late and passed the post a close-up third.

The form does not add up to much, with the winner and runner-up having since failed to fire, but India’s Song clearly has an engine and will not have to raise her game much to win what looks a weak 32Red Maiden Stakes.

The Robert Mills-trained Jacobs Son can complete a hat-trick in the Rose Stockley 80th Birthday Celebration Handicap in the capable of hands of Graham Lee.

The five-year-old’s first three career wins were registered at Lingfield, so it was nice to see him prove he can get the job done elsewhere when scoring here under Lee a fortnight ago.

With this extra couple of furlongs likely to suit him even more, Jacobs Son should prove extremely difficult to beat.

Wordiness has been in tremendous form since the turn of the year and has an excellent opportunity to bag a fourth consecutive victory at Lingfield.

The son of Dansili has raised his game considerably since being stepped up to distances of around a mile and a half, and absolutely bolted up when winning for the first time at Wolverhampton in early February.

He has since switched from the care of Seamus Durack to Brendan Powell and his progress has continued, securing further successes back at Wolverhampton and, most recently, here at Lingfield.

He is clearly not as one dimensional as might have been thought in the past and although an 8lb hike in the weights undoubtedly makes life tougher, it should not be enough to stop him taking gold again in the Orpheus Centre Handicap.
