Imperial Guest, runner-up in last season’s Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood, was last night put down after fracturing a bone in a hind leg at Kempton.

The seven-year-old gelding was the 4-11 favourite for the Betdaq Mobile Apps Conditions Stakes over seven furlongs, but was pulled up by Ian Mongan two furlongs from home after having lost his action.

Trainer George Margarson said: “His foot got caught in a hole and there was nowhere back for him – he hadn’t even had a gallop.
