Verdict can show her true colours
David Wachman’s filly, a daughter of Danehill Dancer, looked an exciting prospect in the early months of the season but hasn’t been seen since flopping in the Group 3 Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown in July.
But her overall form is rock-solid in the context of tonight’s seven-furlong contest. And a reproduction of any of three previous runs will suffice.
A highly promising second to stable-companion Mironica on her debut at Naas, she then filled the runner-up berth behind subsequent Moyglare winner Sky Lantern in a listed fillies event on the same track.
And she performed with credit again when second to Sendmylovetorosie (went on to triumph at Group 2 level in Newmarket) in the Group 3 Grangecon Stud Stakes at the Curragh.
When last seen, True Verdict ran freely before dropping away tamely in the Silver Flash, a run clearly too bad to be true.
Returning after a break and drawn 13, this 103-filly looks a cut above her rivals and should earn a valuable bracket, at the probable expense of Aidan O’Brien’s One True Love and Drifting Mist, an eye-catcher on her recent debut over six furlongs here.
Tonight’s two-year-old maiden is best left to Andy Oliver’s Tiger Stripes, probably flattered when third behind Probably and Cristoforo Colombo in the Group 2 Railway Stakes at the Curragh in mid-summer before failing to live up to expectations when a half-length second to newcomer Carpathia over this course and distance last week.
Michael Halford’s string is in top form. And his eight-time course winner Banna Boirche appeals in the finale, the Dundalk Light Up Your Night Race.
Although he has never won over further than a mile, he was far from disgraced when sixth to Declaration Of War over this route recently and, with a clear run, can reverse form with Brendan Bracken.
