Now or never for Precious Stone

She has the capacity to bring down a bank, but David Wachman’s Precious Stone is given a final chance to deliver in the Christmas Party Packages Dundalk Stadium Fillies Maiden on the polytrack today.

Anyone who has been repeatedly backing Precious Stone will surely have gone bust as a result, but this does represent a good opportunity and it is surely a case of now or never for the three-year-old.

Following her latest failure there are surely many punters who will not have the daughter of Galileo at any price and that is perfectly understandable.

At Down Royal earlier in the month, the selection tried to make all of the running, over an extended ten furlongs, and the tactics looked sure to succeed for most of the journey.

But Precious Stone found precious little in the closing stages and faded to fill third spot behind Honour And Obey and Empress Of Tara. She is now dropped down to a mile, hardly a minus, and is given the vote because, despite always finding a way to get it wrong, simply looks the best horse in this field!

The Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Fillies Maiden is a cracking contest and it will be a surprise should it not house a number of future winners.

Another Wachman inmate, Bronte, may well supply the answer and gets the vote, ahead of Dermot Weld’s Bracing Breeze.

Bronte, meeting a solid surface for the first time, showed improved form when beaten two lengths into second by John Oxx’s newcomer, Tarana, over a mile at the Curragh.

As a daughter of Oasis Dream that was only to be expected and she may have the legs on Bracing Breeze, who made a most promising start when a close third to What Style and the subsequent winner, Snow Queen, at Leopardstown last month.
