Enright the hero as Tiara lands touch
Backed from 7/1 to 9/2, Special Tiara made a terrible mistake at the third, almost sending Enright into orbit. But he held on tight, soon had his mount back on an even keel and back in front before going to record a one-length victory over Plan A.
Enright admitted afterwards: “He’s a real two-miler. He loves to jump and gallop. He jumped brilliantly, except for that one fence. He guessed at it but, luckily, he never lost his momentum and never dipped his head, which gave me a chance of staying on board.”
Later, after favourite Sin Palo and Ruby Walsh hit the deck at the third last, Davy Russell seized his opportunity on Dessie Hughes’ Rivage D’Or in the concluding The Tote Return All Profits To Irish Racing Chase, stretching clear to beat Berties Dream easily by eleven lengths.
“That was an ideal race for him to start back,” said a delighted Hughes. “Davy said he enjoyed himself. We might look for another conditions race. I suppose he’ll run in the good staying handicaps. He’s a real winter horse.”
