Akeed Mofeed sold to race in Hong Kong
Akeed Mofeed looked a bright prospect when opening his account by five lengths at Leopardstown last September before taking second place behind David Livingston in the Group Two Beresford Stakes at the Curragh later that month.
Several niggly problems kept him off the track until the Irish Derby at the Curragh in late June when he was fourth to Camelot.
And he showed he still has plenty of ability when he scooted up by five lengths over a mile in a Listed race at Cork earlier this month.
“We’ve sold him to race in Hong Kong. He’s been bought by trainer Richard Gibson for one of his owners,” said Bruce Raymond, racing manager to Jaber Abdullah.
“It was a good offer and Jaber has the mare (Wonder Why).
“Akeed Mofeed was home bred, he’s got a lot of horses and this is the time to sell.
“I think he’ll be a very good horse in Hong Kong at a mile and a mile and a quarter.
“He’s got a lot of speed and fast ground will suit him out there.”
lConnections of Thomas Chippendale will wait for about a week before deciding on the three-year-old’s next race.
The Henry Cecil-trained colt holds entries in the Ladbrokes St Leger and the Prix Niel at Longchamp in the middle of next month.
Winner of the Group Two King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot, Thomas Chippendale was not disgraced when fifth to Thought Worthy in the Great Voltigeur Stake at York last week when he was giving 3lb to all his rivals.
“He’s fine. We haven’t made a decision on what we are going to do with him yet,” said Barry Simpson, racing manager to owner Sir Robert Ogden.
“He’s entered in France in the Prix Niel and he’s also been left in the Leger. He’ll probably have one or two more races this season, then we’ll put him away for next year.
“The race at York didn’t suit us so we really didn’t learn an awful lot from it.”
