Another Famous win on the cards

Famous Name, at his favourite track, is impossible to oppose in the Group 3 Jockey Club Of Turkey Meld Stakes at Leopardstown tonight.

Another Famous win on the cards

He has already won eleven times round here and, with the likely soft ground very much in his favour, it will be surprising should Dermot Weld’s colt fail to deliver.

The seven-year-old’s latest success came in another Group 3, this time at the Curragh, when cruising to a three and three quarter lengths defeat of Defining Year, with Native Khan third and Windsor Palace fourth. Those three horses renew rivalry with the selection, but considering the weights are exactly the same then it is difficult to envisage any of them getting in any sort of blow.

Elsewhere on the card Aidan and Joseph O’Brien are the team to have on one’s side. Their Buckingham Gate gets the nap in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden.

He’s an ordinary horse, but going the right way on the evidence of his third behind Shelford and subsequent winner, Dougal Philps, at Leopardstown last time.

Ballydoyle’s Afonso de Sousa looks best in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden. He tried to make all when fourth to the John Gosden-trained Ghurair at Newmarket 13 days ago and dropping down a furlong in trip looks a plus.

A third Ballydoyle possibility is Lines Of Battle in the Group 3 Korean Racing Authority Tyros Stakes, now that he has his sights lowered after finishing a creditable sixth behind Dawn Approach in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.

At Limerick this evening Ruby Walsh can guide his father Ted’s Summer Star to victory in the Tote Jackpot Mares’ Maiden Hurdle.

The dual bumper winner, both came on this course, shaped as if she would come on plenty for the experience when fifth of six on her debut over jumps in the contest won by Mount Colah at Sligo.

Walsh can initiate a double aboard Willie Mullins’ Peking To Paris, who showed much improved form when landing a bumper at Gowran Park, in the Ladies’ Day 14th October Maiden Hurdle.
