Privileged status for VHI to come to an end

The State will have to inject at least €200m into VHI before the end of next year and create a private limited company to take over its economic activity under an agreement reached with the European Commission.

The exact sum to be put into the state-owned body will depend on the new risk equalisation scheme due to replace the current one at the end of the year.

It compensates health insurance companies for covering older consumers.
