Edison should make light of task

THE classy Thomas Edison should prove hard to beat in the Dawn Omega Milk Novice Hurdle at Killarney this afternoon.

Edison should make light of task

He was far too good for Champagne Fever, successful subsequently at both the Cheltenham and Punchestown festivals, in a bumper at Leopardstown at Christmas.

The selection reappeared over flights at Gowran Park last month and was set to mount a serious challenge when falling at the second last, contest won by the useful Maxim Gorky.

Tony Martin’s charge then went to Bellewstown and had no difficulty setting the record straight.

Going off at 1-3, he strolled to victory by nine and a half lengths and, though this is a far stiffer test, it will be disappointing should Thomas Edison fail to come through with flying colours.

At Leopardstown tonight David Wachman’s True Verdict can get off the mark at the fourth attempt in the Group 3 Silver Flash Stakes.

One’s initial reaction, when she failed to deliver behind Sendmylovetorose in another Group 3 at the Curragh last time, was that it was a disappointing enough effort.

But Sendmylovetorose went to Newmarket after that and landed the Group 2 Cherry Hinton Stakes, which put matters into perspective.

John Oxx’s Aklan gets a hopeful nod in the Listed Challenge Stakes over a mile and six.

He has 11lbs to find with both Galileo’s Choice and Steps To Freedom and that’s an obvious consideration.

But Galileo’s Choice has been off for 128 days, whiles Steps To Freedom will surely struggle on the ground.

Neither fitness nor the surface are a problem to Aklan, who battled on strongly when taking a Listed event over a mile and a half at Roscommon ten days ago.
