O’Brien scoops Philips award
O’Brien’s Camelot won the Epsom Derby last month to give O’Brien his fourth British Classic win of the season. This victory also made him and his jockey son Joseph the first father/son trainer/jockey combination to win the race.
Later in the month Camelot won the Irish Derby at the Curragh to give O’Brien’s his seventh consecutive Derby win and his tenth in all.
Success in the Doncaster St Leger in September, should he run, would see Camelot become the first horse since Nijinsky in 1970 to capture the triple crown of 2000 Guineas, Derby and St Leger.
