The chairman of the Galway Races said that it was testimony to the stature of the annual summer festival that sponsors have been found for all 52 races, when details of this year’s festival were announced in Galway yesterday

Tim Naughton said that the Ballybrit summer festival was not just part of life in Galway since 1869, but was an annual pilgrimage for thousands around Ireland and beyond.

Over 150,000 people are expected over the seven days with a prize fund of €1.6m.
