Thornton back later this week
The Irish Grand National-winning rider thought he might have suffered a fracture during the Keadeen Hotel Wedding Specialists Handicap.
The 10-furlong handicap was delayed when several stalls failed to open which resulted in a false start.
Thornton finished fifth on the Pat Martin-trained six-year-old but was unable to ride out Donatis Comet after feeling some pain in the closing stages.
Thornton went to hospital for X-rays, which revealed no break. “Andrew’s fine, no fracture of the fibula,” said Dr Adrian McGoldrick, the Turf Club’s chief medical officer.
“It’s just a soft tissue injury. He’s just stood down for a day or two, but he’s fine.
“He had an X-ray on the way home which showed no fracture.”
