Ascot switched to Kempton
Kempton and Lingfield are putting on meetings to compensate for the loss of programmes at Ascot and Folkestone respectively while Hereford are improvising by staging an all-chase card.
After tomorrow’s Ascot meeting was called off due to waterlogging yesterday, the relevant bodies got together to rescue the card, featuring the Sagaro Stakes. The entire programme has been switched to Kempton’s all-weather track the same day.
The BHA also gave the green light to an additional fixture on the all-weather at Lingfield on Thursday.
The move comes following the abandonment of Folkestone’s turf fixture the same afternoon and, where possible, similar races to those programmed at Folkestone will be run.
Better weather yesterday came too late to save Windsor’s evening meeting but gave hope to meetings for today.
Officials at Exeter will inspect at 8am today while Yarmouth are to stage a precautionary inspection at 7.30am.
Tomorrow’s Southwell meeting will have to pass a 7am inspection today.
* Eddie Ahern made the perfect comeback from injury as he gave Hurricane In Dubai a well judged ride from the front to land division one of the Betfair Supporting Grassroots Racing Maiden at Kempton.
The jockey had been sidelined since January with a shoulder problem.
* Richard Hughes will return from his 50-day ban at Lingfield today.
The rider received the suspension in India after not riding to instructions, which was reciprocated by the BHA.
