Expect a Strong start for punters

DAVID Corkery’s Too Strong can get punters off on the right foot with an overdue victory in the opening race.

Expect a Strong start for punters

The lightly raced tracker moved through the grades quite steadily despite remaining a maiden but tonight’s assignment is easier than the one he faced last time and that should be enough to allow him get off the mark.

Badly baulked when poised to hit the front on his most recent outing, he looks capable of leading along the inside this time and it’ll be both surprising and disappointing if he cannot convert from there. He’s an imposing sort who may have needed a little time but I’ve no doubt there’s a big run in him and tonight is the night we could see what he’s truly capable of.

The final of the Beamish & Murphy’s A2 is the night’s feature and Black Maestro is selected to supplement his semi-final victory. Dave Lynch and Ken Busteed’s dog won despite of the outside draw on that occasion and he should be better suited to his slot on the rails this time.

He showed a terrific turn of pace on the approach to the turn last weekend and a similar display should see him clear again.

He looks a very shrewd purchase for connections and is selected to score at the expense of Hilight Scolari.

Perhaps the value bet of the night could come in the final of the Cork GOBA Christmas Party A3 525, where Bearhaven Rumble has a chance to earn his first visit to the winner’s enclosure. Patrick Walsh and Graeme Torrance’s dog is yet to finish in the top two in a race but he showed enough in defeat in the semi-finals to suggest his turn may not be that far away.

His first task is to master Lochard on the run to the turn and while that will be no easy feat, it should be noted that the last-named has missed the kick on all three previous outings from trap one.

If Bearhaven Rumble breaks like he did last weekend, he should be able to secure a pitch on the rails. There are more obvious contenders in the race but, at likely inflated odds, he’s worth a speculative punt to finally shed his maiden tag.
