DAVID MARNANE’S Nocturnal Affair gets the nap to outclass the opposition in the listed Mercury Stakes over five furlongs at Dundalk tonight.

Nocturnal Affair can outclass listed rivals

He has hit form with a vengeance of late and, favourably drawn in six, is the one they all have to beat.

The five-year-old had a lot on at the weights in the valuable Coral Sprint Trophy at York earlier in the month. Despite the steadier of 9-10, he ran a cracker to dead-heat for fifth place behind the 13-2 favourite Sirius Prospect.

Prior to that the selection finished second to in-form Roicead at Cork and then produced a terrific display to land the fiercely competitive Portland Handicap at Doncaster.

Aidan O’Brien’s Amazing Beauty is the hopeful choice in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Fillies Race. She performed as well as could be expected when third behind the impressive Sapphire and Kissable at the Curragh and that followed on a reasonable effort when a close third to Takapour and Regent Street on this track.

The rest of the programme consists of six virtually impossible handicaps and, but for the connections involved and their efforts to gain a pay-day, are essentially a complete waste of time. Perhaps Words Of Wisdom, touched off late and beaten a nose by Do The Bosanova at Gowran Park, will oblige in one of them, the Winter Racing At Dundalk Handicap.
