TRAINER David Christie appears to have a cracking sort on his hands in Oscar Fern who impressed by winning the second division of the five and six-year-old geldings’ maiden at yesterday’s Westmeath Foxhounds point-to-point fixture at Castletown-Geoghegan.

Oscar Fern (6/1 - 5/1), who gave ample evidence of ability on his two outings at Dromahane last season, travelled well for Damian Murphy with the victorious son of Oscar overtaking ex-track performer Fear Glic after the second last en-route to obliging by five lengths.

“This horse prefers good ground and we will probably go for a winners’ race with him somewhere now, “said Co Fermanagh-based operator Christie, also on the mark with Mattock Ranger at Rathcannon the previous Sunday.
