Get Worldly Wise with McCoy

TONY McCOY, a welcome visitor to Listowel this afternoon, can guide Worldly Wise to success in the C and F Tooling Maiden Hurdle.

Get Worldly Wise with McCoy

The eight-year-old has been very much a nearly horse over jumps, but was decidedly unlucky at Galway last time and is given a final chance to deliver.

Going off a well-backed favourite in a contest won by Shadow Eile, he was travelling sweetly when squeezed for room and falling two out.

Prior to that Worldly Wise ran a cracker at Gowran Park, beaten half a length into second by the smart Tavern Times.

Pat Flynn trains Worldly Wise and he and McCoy could also have the answer to the featured Listowel Races Supporters’ Club Lartigue Hurdle with Louisville Lip.

Third behind Nearest The Pin and Princeton Plains in a competitive handicap at Fairyhouse in April, the selection made a promising reappearance when beaten three parts of a length by Goldplated on the flat at Galway 15 days ago.

A third McCoy possibility is Pocket Reader, fourth to Pistol Jack at Kilbeggan, in the Kerry Petroleum Handicap Chase.

Aidan O’Brien’s Athens gets the nod in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden. He made a solid start when fourth at York, but was then a costly failure at Leopardstown subsequently.

The Dylan Thomas colt was never going the pace and was beaten five lengths by Akeed Mofeed.

He steps up an extra furlong in trip now, however, and this will represent a much greatest test of stamina, which will surely suit.

Fatcatinthehat, who made an excellent start when beaten three parts of a length by another Ballydoyle inmate, Requisition, at Galway, is the obvious worry.

O’Brien’s Fort Sam Houston, who handled soft ground well when runner-up behind Hurricane Ridge at Killarney, gets the nod in the Jet O’Carroll Memorial Median Auction Maiden.
