Affair can strike in Plate

VINCENT WARD, who saddles Fictional Account in tomorrow’s Irish St Leger at the Curragh, can land Her Majesty’s Plate with End Of The Affair at Down Royal this evening.

Affair can strike in Plate

The useful seven-year-old has plenty going for her at the weights and anything approaching her best should be sufficient to deliver.

Five of the six runners — Donatis Comet is the odd one out — have a rating and the selection has between 9lbs and 21lbs in hand of them all.

End Of The Affair has been rested since the Galway festival at the end of July, where she contested a valuable two miler on the Monday evening.

She had top weight in that fiercely competitive 20-runner handicap and probably performed as well as could have been expected to finish 10th behind Fosters Cross.

Prior to that, at Dundalk, she was far too good for the smart Elyaadi, beating that rival by an impressive four and a half lengths.

In-form Zaralabad looks the main threat. He scrambled home from Paramount at Bellewstown, but produced a far better effort next time when taking a premier handicap by a length from Dimona at Killarney. The bottom line, however, is that he is 11lbs wrong with Ward’s mare and that is not taking into account Sam James’ claim on End Of The Affair.

If the handicapper is right then Hexagonal will make short work of the opposition in the House Of Fraser EBF Maiden.

He appeared to improve dramatically on previous performances when beaten about a length and a half into fourth place behind An Ghalanta in a Listed event at the Curragh last time.

The handicapper pushed him up by a whopping 16lbs and if Hexagonal’s new rating of 94 is anywhere near the truth then there can only be one result!

A Hit Is A Hit, who bolted in at Dundalk last Sunday, gets the nod to defy an 8lbs rise in the weights in the Cruise Ulster Cesarewitch Handicap.
