Progressive Dimona set for big run
John Oxx’s filly, unraced as a two-year-old, has shown a lot of improvement of late and is capable of a big run.
She went to Tramore to win her maiden, taking a modest contest by five and a half lengths. Dimona then finished a creditable third behind Paramount in a ladies’ race at the Curragh, prior to producing her best effort to date at Leopardstown earlier this month.
Contesting a strongly run two mile handicap, she finished with a flourish to score going away by a length and a quarter.
The handicapper took a dim view of that performance and raised the selection by 9lbs. Dimona, however, remains very much at the right end of the handicap and is fancied to at least go close.
Aidan O’Brien’s once-raced Purple can land the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Fillies Maiden. She is bred to hold her own in classics, being by Galileo out of the Moyglare Stud Stakes winner, Necklace.
Purple made her debut in a Curragh maiden 17 days ago and was one of three horses O’Brien introduced in that contest.
Indeed, she went off a well-backed favourite, but did worst of the trio, trailing in sixth in a race dominated by her stable companions, Was and Cabin.
Purple is surely a lot better than that and gets the nod to prove such thinking is correct.
Dermot Weld’s lightly-raced Daffern Seal, having only a fourth outing, looks the answer to the TVM Novice Chase.
He gave an exhibition of jumping when making all to slam Traffic Article at Galway and, though this is a harder task, can prove up to it.
Law Rebel, runner-up behind Cairdin at Galway, with subsequent winner, Brough Academy, in third, gets the vote in a weak Bumper.
