Fictional Account set for Fame rematch in Irish St Leger
Vincent Ward’s mare caused a huge shock at the weekend when beating Aidan O’Brien’s Ascot Gold Cup winner in a trial for the final Irish Classic of the season.
With the winner of Saturday’s race earning themselves a spot in the big race if they were not already entered, Ward is happy to let the six-year-old take her chance, with the Doncaster Cup an alternative option.
“She’ll go for the Leger next,” said Ward. “The Doncaster Cup was to be her aim but we get a free entry to the Leger now so we have to go there really. It’s not often a six-year-old mare gets the chance to run in a race as valuable as that and if she can get some black type, that would be fantastic.
“It depends on the ground as well, she wouldn’t run on soft, she may as well stay at home.
“The only time she disappointed this season was at Ascot when it poured down but we were already there so we took a chance. In fairness to Fran Berry, he looked after her and told us not to give up hope and she’d win a nice race.”
