Prospect seeking Rose honours

ROGER Varian is hopeful Hot Prospect can kick off a profitable second half of the campaign in the Betfred Rose Of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock today.

The Motivator colt was considered good enough to compete in last year’s Derby when trained by Michael Jarvis and while that proved a step too far, he looked all class when winning a valuable handicap on this Haydock card 12 months ago.

Unfavourable conditions have meant the four-year-old did not make his seasonal return until last month, but his excellent second at Newbury suggests he is at least as good as ever.

“He ran well first time back at Newbury and the drop of rain they had at Haydock on Thursday will have helped,” said Varian.

“Good ground or softer would suit the horse and he has run well at Haydock before.

“He was very impressive in the handicap last year but he had everything to suit that day as they went a nice gallop on soft ground.

“That brings out the best in him, so hopefully we get the same thing tomorrow.

“The horse seems well. He had done enough work to run well at Newbury and he did.”
