Godolphin looking for Solera hat-trick
The Mahmood Al Zarooni-trained Discourse and Desert Gazelle, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, both made winning debuts over six furlongs on the July Course.
They are now stepping up in distance and in grade as they seek to post a Group Three triumph on the board for Sheikh Mohammed’s operation.
Discourse caused a few eyebrows to be raised when upstaging stablemate Gamilati, who was sent off odds-on, by a short-head.
But the form was given a massive boost with the runner-up lifting the Cherry Hinton Stakes.
Frankie Dettori takes the mount on Discourse with Jamie Spencer on Desert Gazelle, who won her maiden in pleasing fashion by four lengths. Al Zarooni told www.godolphin.com: “Discourse has improved since her win at Newmarket and that race taught her a lot.
“Ahmed Ajtebi gave her a good ride – he gave her plenty of room in behind and she passed some horses – and it was a nice introduction.
“The form has worked out well with Gamilati going on to win the Cherry Hinton Stakes and I think that Discourse can run another nice race – she is certainly a filly for the future.”
Bin Suroor said of his filly: “I was very pleased with Desert Gazelle on her debut and she has improved since that run.
“She worked very well on Tuesday morning and I am looking forward too seeing how she gets on against some very good fillies.”
Zingana's debut win at 100-1 at Newbury month ago shocked many people but not her trainer Eve Johnson Houghton.
“Her win at Newbury was a surprise to everyone else! I think she’s a really nice filly,” said the Blewbury handler. “The form has held up pretty well. The third won impressively at Goodwood, so I think she goes there with a nice each-way chance. Obviously it’s a hotter race, but if you win a maiden first time out with a filly you’ve got nowhere else to go with them.”
