Kastania worth another chance
She is certainly no flying machine, but has done enough in two outings of late to indicate that this is well within her capabilities.
The three-year-old began by finishing 5th of 19 behind Terminal Velocity — contest hasn’t worked out particularly well — at the Curragh.
Kastania then ran at Limerick, but proved no match for her stable companion, Kalabaya, having a first run, going under by four and a half lengths.
The soft ground then, however, may not have played to the strengths of the selection and she is worth another chance.
John Oxx trains Kastania and might also have the answer to the very competitive feature, the Group 3 Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Brownstown Stakes for fillies and mares, with History Note.
Lightly raced, she has a progressive profile and should at least give us a big run. History Note’s latest outing came in the Irish 1000 Guineas at the Curragh, when a creditable sixth behind Misty For Me.
That is a contest which is being seen in an increasingly favourable light with Misty For Me, so impressive at headquarters on Saturday, Banimpire (5th), Chrysanthemum (7th) and Rose Bonheur (9th), all doing plenty for the form in the meantime.
Emulous, who proved far too good for Royal Ascot heroine Lolly For Dolly at the Curragh, is probably the biggest danger.
The modest Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Median Auction Maiden may be best left to Ger Lyons’ Bible Black.
He has been rested since proving a costly failure at Dundalk in April. Going off a 2-5 shot, Bible Black was beaten into second by Ishvana.
The third home, though, Naseem Sea, has since proved himself a more than useful sort, so the Big Bad Bob gelding is given the benefit of the doubt, at least for the moment.
