Godolphin issue Delegator warning

GODOLPHIN have warned that Delegator, the ante-post favourite for the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot tomorrow, will only run if the ground is suitable.

Having his first run over six furlongs at York’s May meeting, the horse who chased home Sea The Stars in the 2000 Guineas back in 2009 ran out an easy winner.

With Frankie Dettori suspended, Mickael Barzalona has been booked for the ride but with rain hitting Ascot yesterday, Saeed bin Suroor has issued the proviso that he will only run on ground that suits.

Delegator is one of 17 declared for the six-furlong Group One, with Roger Charlton supplying three.

The improving Bated Breath, set to be ridden by Richard Hughes, Definightly who will be partnered by Olivier Peslier and Genki who will have the assistance of Jamie Spencer.

Ryan Moore rides Kingsgate Native after he finished sixth in the King’s Stand on Tuesday while the Australian Star Witness, second over five furlongs, will try again over further.

However, fellow antipodean challenger Hinchinbrook will not take his place as trainer Peter Moody reports him to be lame and the colt could now be retired.

Charles O’Brien’s Bewitched is the sole Irish challenger with Amico Fritz coming from France.

Dalghar, formerly trained in France but now with Andrew Balding, Elzaam, Hooray and last year’s runner-up Society Rock are also set to run.
