All systems go for Bunting bid
The Godolphin filly, trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni, attempts to emulate Kazzia, who completed the Guineas-Oaks double for Sheikh Mohammed’s operation in 2002.
“We thought we would take our chance with her in the Guineas. It has always been a good Oaks trial,” Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford told At The Races.
“We ran Moonshell in the Guineas, she finished fourth and went on to win the Oaks (in 1995).
“We were rather hopeful that’s what Blue Bunting would have done, but she won and had the rail to help her.
“She was doing her best work at the finish, she got cover in the early part of the race from as very strong headwind which helped her.”
Anne-Marie O’Brien, wife of trainer Aidan, confirmed on Twitter that Kieren Fallon would ride leading fancy Wonder Of Wonders, with Seamie Heffernan on Misty For Me.
Ballydoyle may have further ammunition in the Classic with Why and Eirnin still under consideration.
“Kieran Fallon will ride Wonder Of Wonders in the Oaks on Friday and Seamus Heffernan will ride Misty For Me,” O’Brien confirmed. “It is possible that we will also run Why and Eirnin in Epsom on Friday.”
