Frankel focus fixed on Ascot

TEDDY Grimthorpe has no intention of looking beyond Royal Ascot for superstar colt Frankel.

Frankel focus fixed on Ascot

The Henry Cecil-trained youngster maintained his unbeaten record with a truly wonderful performance from the front in the 2000 Guineas.

And with connections having already ruled out a tilt at the Derby, the St James’s Palace Stakes is his next target.

However, Grimthorpe, racing manager for owner Prince Khalid Abdullah, does not have any other definite races in mind at this stage.

“He’s been fine. He’s in really good shape and came out of the Guineas really well,” said Grimthorpe.

“He hasn’t done much yet but he’ll head to Ascot and lets hope he can go on in the same vein.

“The long-term, ultimate plan with this horse to make him as good as we can and give him every chance to show that.

“At the moment there is no set agenda, although it will obviously surround the big mile and mile and a quarter races.”
